Have you ever found a place so relaxing and inspiring that you return year over year? Let Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club in South Georgia pull you back again, like it does with our family, to bask in outdoor serenity.
Rejuvenate your soul with hiking, biking and paddling, and enjoy Lake Blackshear’s campgrounds, lakeside cabins, 18-hole golf course, and marina. Perhaps you have heard or seen that the resort lodge and villas are closed for updates, but rest assured, Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club is open for business!
The lake life is well-lived here! The Cypress Grill, the waterside restaurant, is ready to serve you. Drive in the park, walk over from the cabins or even tie your boat up to the nearby dock before relaxing on the restaurant patio with some of the best BBQ the area has to offer. Other attractions within picturesque Georgia Veteran’s Memorial State Park and Golf Course include fishing, swimming, pontoon boating, kayaking, and canoeing.
We love swimming with the kids in the summertime lake’s refreshing waters. With beaches tucked into little coves – accessible by rented pontoon boats – and with the main beach near the cabins and camping, you can warm up in the sun after a swim. You can close your eyes after enjoying a picnic in one of our many shelters available to rent and relax in the South Georgia breezes with family and friends around you. Bring the dogs.
This summer, we are staying in a furnished cabin near the shoreline. Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Course is pet friendly and while it’s known that campers and RVers can have dogs, there are also pet-friendly cabins available as well. Read about the pet-friendly program.
Unique accommodations rule here! Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club offers 10 Lakeside Cabins that have two bedrooms with two queen beds, a fireplace, large bath and full kitchen, plus a grill and screened porch with rocking chairs. Cabin 1 is ADA Accessible. Glamping within the campground fuses luxury with the outdoors. The furnished safari tents come in two configurations at six campground sites and offer King and Queen beds with bunkbed options. They are furnished like cabins with everything you need to be comfortable inside the tent and out. There are 82 RV and tent camping spaces available at the Georgia Veterans State Park campgrounds. The campgrounds are adjacent to the boat ramp and fishing pier, making fishing and boating convenient to all campsites. Click here for details about all accommodations.
Check out the osprey nest we discovered last summer while Danny and I were kayaking with the kids.
Back at the cabin, we could relax for a bit before making dinner in the full kitchen or going out to eat at Cypress Grill to take in some live acoustic entertainment. This year, Thursday Night Karaoke is being upgraded with Trivia and other games. The park has miles of nature trails for hiking, biking, and running.
Lake Blackshear is stocked with bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Some fishers like to pull up with their vehicles and fish from the shore. Others will deploy their boats in the water and explore the cypress flats, flooded timber and all the hidden coves and secret fishing holes that make the experience so unique to Lake Blackshear.
Did you know? You can obtain a state fishing license at the Visitors Center. This is also where you rent paddleboards and kayaks, with buoyant life vests included.
