Stay in a cabin, safari tent, or your own tent or RV by Lake Blackshear. Play golf and dare to walk the Dark Forest Haunted Trail!
This Fall Break, the family is heading back to Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club. This wide-open oasis is a local favorite for fishing, boating and golfing year-round – plus a decent food scene for a small town! Check the themed dinner nights at Cordelia’s – the resort reimagined restaurant and consider joining us for Game Day Saturdays.
Lakeside Cabins
Last year we loved staying in a cabin – there are 10 cabins by the lake.
Lakeside Camping & Fishing
There are 82 campsites designed for tents, trailers and RVs. Georgia Veterans State Park has a site-specific campground, meaning that reservations are made for specific campsites. The campground is adjacent to the boat ramp and fishing pier, making fishing and boating convenient for everyone.
This year we decided to book a Safari Tent for our trip to Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club.
There are six glampsites, #54 through #59, that have safari tents for the ultimate in glamping. The spacious Safari Tents have either a King-sized bed and 2 sets of bunk beds or 2 Queen sized beds, giving families and friends extra space to gather and sleep. They also come with all the amenities, plus: 2 hammocks, a fire pit, charcoal cooking grill, string lights, 2 camp chairs and a picnic table.
Park Activities
Bring your best set of clubs to the Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course – or Vets Course – known as one of Georgia’s finest courses, open daily. Golfers of all skill levels can enjoy sparkling lake views and the gentle breeze of the region’s mild climate. Vets Course is ranked by Golf Digest as a four-star course designed by golf architect Denis Griffiths. There are strategically placed mounds, water hazards and sand bunkers that define the holes and enhance the game.
The outdoor portion of the park’s Military Museum just outside the Visitor Center displays retired war vehicles and planes from different eras. Our boy loved being able to touch some of the tanks (he’s a little bigger this fall) but he’ll never be strong enough to push this tank back even by an inch! Military displays include a B-29A Superfortress, jets, a helicopter, tanks, and landing craft and artillery.
Inside the museum is a comprehensive tribute to veterans featuring artifacts and stories spanning the Revolutionary War through the present day. It was established as a memorial to Georgia’s U.S. veterans and operates under the theme, “Serve the Living: Honor our Heroic Dead.”
If your kids are over the age of 13 (recommended for its scare factors), The Dark Forest Haunted Trail presents Psychos Path every Friday and Saturday in October and on Halloween Night from 7:30-10:30 pm. $10 per person. Call the Park Office at 229-276-2372 to get more information. A $5 Park Pass is required for each vehicle.
We’re looking forward to Fall Break, and to making new friends at Lake Blackshear Resort & Golf Club, relaxing at night to the sounds of nature just outside our safari tent, playing golf, and exploring everything this beautiful place has to offer in Cordele, Georgia.
