It’s easy to fill a family vacation with one-of-a-kind experiences in this neck of the Peach State woods. Golf, hike, boat or soak up sun on the sandy beach. The Marina at Lake Blackshear opens annually on Saint Patrick’s Day – just in time for the Spring Break crowd. Park guests and visitors are more than welcome to use our boat ramp to launch their own watercraft vessels., Boat rentals are also available, from 12-person pontoon boats to two-person kayaks and canoes, and are the perfect way to load up the family and celebrate Spring on the water.

Lake Blackshear is an angler’s haven and perfect for a family fishing trip. Cast a line for bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Fishermen, women, girls and boys load up their gear and their Georgia state fishing license to enjoy time together navigating Lake Blackshear. And if the catch is large enough, they take it back to Lakeside Cabins and Campsites to fillet and enjoy the freshest feast around.

Early Spring is a great time for bass fishing on Lake Blackshear. Prepare your hook with the best in bass bait sold in our Marina Store and cast around cypress trees. Don’t give up and you’re likely to reel in a big one. As the season moves towards summer the perfect spot for bass shifts. Local fisherman are easy to find and a great resource for insider tips.
The park also has great family friendly activities for those who prefer to stay dry. The 18-hole championship Georgia Veterans Golf Course was givens four stars by Golf Digest and is considered one of middle and south Georgia’s finest courses. This golf course is a wonderful challenge for seasoned golfers while still being an appropriate starting point for the beginner or novice.

Outside the marina and golf course there are a number of other family friendly ways to spend free days and maybe find a new favorite pastime—like disc golf, biking, archery and air rifle target practice or visiting the hummingbird and butterfly garden. The park even has three playgrounds for the youngest spring breakers. For the history buff, the SAM Shortline Excursion Train runs through the park (and beyond) sharing cultural and historical hot spots as it goes. Plus, there’s a Military History Museum with artifacts from the American Military Forces in Georgia from the Civil War to the Gulf War.

Another way to celebrate Spring on Lake Blackshear is with live music at the Cypress Grill. As it starts to warm up outside, things are heating up with the launch of the season’s concert series. Groups gather for fun, food and great live music. Arrive by boat or land for lunch or dinner. Visitors relax in this casual indoor/outdoor eatery complete with live nighttime entertainment during the weekends, including karaoke nights. The Cypress Grill has welcomed performers such as the Zac Brown Band, Confederate Railroad, Lee Brice, The Tams, Georgia Satellites and more.
